Insulation is the principle of separating functional components in mechanical systems, preventing the movement of electrical currents during mechanical transmission. Excessive current can cause serious problems when it passes between the drive end of the servo and the driven components. The Oldham and Torx couplings use non-metallic and polymeric intermediate blocks for insulation. Other types of couplings can also be manufactured from insulating materials.
