All couplings have torsional elastic deformation, also known as torsional compliance. Torsional elastic deformation is the torsional distortion between the driving end (such as a motor) and the driven end. The main issue with torsional elastic deformation in servo applications is how to continue to maintain positioning accuracy when the coupling ends are angled. Torsional elastic deformation can also bring about system resonance in the case of poor tuning, resulting in instability of the servo motor.
