Diaphragm couplings may look unremarkable, but they are an important component of industrial equipment. The coupling is partially filled with working fluid. When the pump impeller is rotated by the prime mover, the working fluid is driven by the impeller blades. Under the action of centrifugal force, the working liquid flows to the turbine along the curved surface of the working chamber of the pump wheel, and a tangential force is generated at the same time. When the working fluid in the pump impeller flows into the turbine cavity, the turbine blades are pushed due to the tangential force, so that the turbine obtains torque. At start-up, the torque on the turbine is not enough to overcome the working load, so it does not rotate with the impeller. As the speed of the pump impeller increases, the oil entering the working chamber increases, and the force acting on the turbine and the torque generated are increasing.

China's diaphragm coupling industry basically consists of three parts: couplings, vehicle diaphragm couplings and diaphragm coupling equipment. Among them, the vehicle diaphragm coupling has a market share of 60%; the coupling is composed of industrial general, special, and special diaphragm couplings, and its market shares are 18%, 12%, and 8% respectively; diaphragm couplings Appliances accounted for 2% of the market share. Diaphragm couplings are well balanced and suitable for high speed applications (up to 30,000 rpm), but cannot handle large deviations, especially axial deviations. Larger eccentricities and declinations create larger bearing loads than other servo diaphragm couplings. Another issue of concern is the failure of the torx disc coupling. Once the plum blossom elastic spacer is damaged or fails, the torque transmission will not be interrupted, and the metal claws of the two bushings mesh together to continue to transmit the torque, which is likely to cause problems in the system. Selecting the appropriate plum blossom elastic spacer material according to the actual application is a major advantage of this diaphragm coupling.
